me and mecca : things that they sell on the street

These pictures are from my last year trip to Mecca
but I still keep some of them in my camera apparently
and excitedly share them here to remind me how
colorful those stuff they are selling and how actually
some of them are pretty much ordinary stuffs even
in Jakarta or Indonesian's street. Sure love to go back
there someday:)

A Sweet Sunny Sunday

Today is my last day at my parent's house after Thursday where

we celebrate Eid Mubarak together. I spent today just hang out

at my youngest room while updating my shop. Here's a couple of

artsy stuff she made and did to her room and also a sneak peek

to some new stuff that I have made for my etsy shop! 

And my mom's gave me those pretty fabrics from her piles!

What a Sunday! And  I hope yours also a splendid one!

Ini hari terakhir saya di rumah ibu setelah merayakan Lebaran

sejak hari Kamis, seharian ini saya hanya berada di kamar

adik saya sambil mengupdate etsy saya dan memotret hal-hal

menarik yang ada di dalam kamarnya. Ibu saya sedang belajar

patchwork menghibahkan beberapa kainnya yang lucu lucu.

Dan dua foto terakhir adalah produk terbaru dari kolase saya 

yang akan saya jual mulai minggu depan. Tunggu ya!

me and exhibition: Aprilia Apsari for Codex Code!

I went to the opening of the Codex Code last Saturday night

and instantly in love with this piece by the always inspiring, Miss Sari 

She made this out of jeans and flower cut out fabric pieces. Somehow

her pieces also makes me feel has a friend on this exhibition that

will ended on 22nd of August 2010. Please do check it out my friends!

Saya datang ke pembukaan pameran Codex Code malam

minggu lalu bersama Miss Dindie Mikisi dan langsung

mabuk kepayang dengan karya Nona Sari yang membuat

karya saya terasa ada temannya. Pameran yang bertempat

di ruang rupa ini akan berlangsung hingga 22 Agustus 2010.

Datang ya teman-teman! Dijamin tak akan kecewa!

me and furniture: all i know they all just gorgeous

Do you notice how rare I talk about furniture or decor
and other related stuff? It's because I rarely found those
that I like around me. But these one I think just way too
good to be true when I found them on the second floor
of a house that I used for a shooting during my advertising
years. I mean, they all just stunning! Right?

Saya jarang memasukkan gambar perabot atau furniture di
blog saya karena memang jarang sekali menemukan yang
saya suka sampai sekarang, tapi kalau yang ini? Tak usah 
ditanya lagi! Saya menemukannya di lantai dua sebuah rumah
tempat saya shooting iklan dulu. Luar biasa, bukan?

Sunny Sunday

These are from last Sunday morning when I spent half
of it with Miss Dindie Of Mikisi before going to the
office afterwards. We went to craft supplies market,
then to that big flea market and the last one was went
to my regular second hand shop.Thank you for spending
a really full on Sunday morning with me, Miss Dindie!

Hari minggu pagi dari minggu lalu. Menghabiskan pagi
bersama Nona Dindie Mikisi berjalan-jalan dari pasar
Mayestik, pasar Kebayoran sampai dengan mengintip
penjual baju bekas di Jatayu. Seruu deh! Terimakasih

What A Collage!

Dear Catherine,

First I would like to tell you how inspiring your collages are to me and I would love to hear your stories on them and also your own collage making process. Let's start with the questions, shall we?

1. I used to know collage when I start making zines, therefore my understanding of collage is like a paper art. But then as time goes by I notice that apart from paper there are many other material we can use. How about you and collage in general, how did it start? I have been creating all my life. About12 years ago I started noticing paper collage art and I just loved it! I loved the jumbled mix of images that could create such amazing scenes and moods. So i got into making paper collages for myself. I hadn't really made collages since. Now that I sew and create with fabric it was just a natural progession to try collage with fabrics. Sometimes i need to break away from plush making for a short time so that I don't feel stagnant.

2. I noticed that you make a fantastic rag dolls, are they inspires you then with the collage or is it the other way around? Are there many trial and error first before you nail them? I was inspired to make fabric collages because my plush dolls. For my plush I don't use patterns and I don't create from detailed sketches so my creations are free to come out as they come out. I am not so concered with making an exact copy of anything, even my own sketches. I prefer that my creations come from spontaneity. Creating this way for me brings happy surprises to me and I learn and grow from the results that I maybe wasn't expecting. This way of creating keeps it fun and fresh and exciting!

3. Apart from fabric and thread, are there any other materials that you've tried and how do they go? Apart from fabric and thread, I have added plastic doll parts such as arms. I love the idea of mixed media dolls/soft sculpure. I have also used metal parts such as a spring coil for a mouth. I really enjoy adding these other elements to my dolls and can only see myself continuing this.

4. Is there any special tips that you would like to share if someone would like to make one too? My advice to anyone wanting to start making their own plush is to first off not make too many rules for oneself. Start small and just see what happens. Make a simple sketch if you want. Mainly concentrate on the overall shape. Once you are comfortable and happy with your basic shape you can focus on the details.

Sunny Sunday

This is a kind of sunday that when you woke up
sleepy but when you decide to push yourself to
get out early from your house and you were
so glad you did that. Yes, it was that kind of Sunday.
Making art with the girls after a quick trip to that
one particular big second hand market.

me and craft : recycle totes

I found these pictures this morning inside my
fabric folder and I suddenly missed them.
Those who knows me can tell how crazy
about tote bags I am.So, a couple of years
ago I start to design them also.

All of them are sold already and I used to
embelish them with pom poms, laces
and other embellishments. It's time to make
more I guessed, one should never have enough
totes, right?

me and ubud : i heart denpasar's market

Allright, a lady friend asked me yesterday to go to
this one particular street in the middle of a huge
Denpasar market to check out the fabrics they
have there. And what a trip, I tell you!

Not only they have ahmaaziing line of fabrics
especially on corduroy, jeans and canvas
department but they even have flanel patchwork
by meters! Sick, right?
