me and collection: indonesian vintage craft books

I found these series of vintage craft books on duplex
in Bandung a couple of weeks ago when I was in
town for a short visit. They were piles of them at the
back displays and thanks to that one buddy who found them!
He got himself an awesome vintage children book album
from the 1970's. Oh what a lucky lucky finds!

Saya menemukan seri buku-buku kerajinan tangan triplex
dari tahun 70 an ini di sebuah toko buku tua yang tak
kalah cantiknya di Bandung. Tertumpuk-tumpuk di
belakang bersama dengan buku-buku tua lainnya, 
untung saja teman saya yang satu ini selalu begitu jeli
dan teliti di setiap kunjungan kita di toko buku!

from the 1950's.Made for bicycle, wood and other surface.
I love that guy with the hat as the mascot!

Label produk cat buatan Surabaya dari tahun 1950-an. 
Saya suka sekali lelaki berkopiah yang menjadi maskotnya. 
Ukuran aslinya juga kecil memanjang.

me and thrift market: A Tree Of Pretty Plates

This tree is placed in one of the closest thrift market corner
near my office. This is where they put all those vintage and
second hand plates. But until last week for the first time I
was there I notice that they have now cover almost the whole
tree! Oh wow!

Pohon ini terletak di salah satu sudut pasar loak yang letaknya
paling dekat dengan kantor saya yang sekarang. Selama ini
memang digunakan untuk memajang piring-piring antik dan
bekas yang cantik-cantik. Namun minggu lalu saya baru sadar
kalau sekarang piring-piring ini sudah menutupi seluruh batang
pohonnya! Sebuah pohon piring yang cantik kan?

me and vintage finds: one lucky day

It was last Wednesday when I decide to stay at home and not 

going to the office. So after I went to the post office for my

Postcrossing  ritual, I went to had lunch at this warong near

my house. As I sat in one of the seat my eyes wander inside

the warong and also outside when my eyes saw that vintage

television drawer that seemed to be put outside because it

didn't being used anymore. So I asked the woman did she

throw this television drawer away? Can I have it?

Sure, she said. 

Hari Rabu lalu sepulang dari kantor pos untuk ritual 

Postcrossing mingguan saya, saya memutuskan untuk mampir

ke warteg dekat rumah untuk makan siang. Sambil menunggu

giliran saya memotret dalam rumahnya dan mata saya pun

tertumbuk pada sebuah lemari televisi jaman dulu yang di

letakkan begitu saja di teras warteg tadi. Saya tanya pada 

pemilik wartegnya apakah lemari itu dibuang, bila iya bolehkah

saya mengambilnya? Silahkan, jawabnya.

I once noticed that local playing cards with its own design and
art will be a good idea to start a collection, but when I got these
set from a marvelous etsian living in france that I am really think
about this idea seriously. I will share my collection of local playing
cards some other time but for now let us all admire these one.

Saya mulai mengkoleksi kartu remi lokal beberapa waktu lalu,
namun sebelumnya juga saya tidak pernah menyangka kalau
kartu sejenis apalagi yang antik dari luar Indonesia bisa secantik
ini sampai saya mendapatkannya dari barter dengan Anna di
etsy beberapa bulan lalu. Saya akan perlihatkan koleksi kartu
remi lokal saya lain waktu, sekarang yang ini dulu ya:)

I have just start to collect Indonesian vintage or traditional labels.
These are some of them from our Batik products, an old money
and others. I thing I prefer to collect square and bigger size labels
but no one could will say no when findings these pretty paperie, right?

Koleksi label produk lokal dan antik dari Indonesia ini 
memang tidak banyak. Mungkin karena pada akhirnya
saya lebih suka mengkoleksi label yang bentuknya kotak 
dan ukurannya besar. Tapi kalau ada yang menawari,
siapa yang tidak tergoda membeli kan?

featuring one of her Vintage Teacup Succulents!
I think that just a brilliant idea for a vintage teacups!
So imagined my excitement when she said that she
loves to trade with me too! Yay! Thanks much, Lauren!

Look what I found today! They all from 1950's and still in such a
great condition for vintage books. And I just realized that mostly
I found treasures at the second hand market where I didn't plan to
go there and look for something. Is that ever happened to you too?

Saya menemukan ketiga buku dari tahun 1950-an kemarin siang
saat menunggu teman di sebuah toko buku bekas langganan saya.
Yang satu novel picisan dari tahun 1955 dan satunya lagi adalah
komik dari tahun 1958. Keduanya kondisinya masih bagus sekali
dan saya baru sadar kalau saya selalu beruntung kalau memang
tidak sedang berniat untuk 'berburu'. 
Pernah mengalami hal yang sama?

me and souvenirs : singapore and malaysia trip

Knowing me, all those souvenirs I bring along
from that trip is mostly vintage stuff and craft
supplies. These are the vintage photo, envelopes,
tin cans and a cute brown bag I got in Singapore.
PLUS some tin toys from Melacca. How I should
definitely be back there for more vintage and
craft supplies shopping, I tell you.

Sunny Sunday (For A Babushka)

Dear you,
I'm Tuti. I'm the latest find of Vantiani's matryoshka
collection. She found me one morning at this flea spot
near the post office. And I'm really happy to meet the
other five of us in her chaotic studio.

Yesterday, I accompanied her and one of her close friend
to take pictures at the park while she try to work at the 
same time. I know, so much for something that she called
a holiday isn't it?

me and gift tags: a little story

Do you know that gift tags is something totally new
in Jakarta and of course Indonesia? That means I have
to explaining to people every time I display and try to
sell them on my booth. But its all right, I always believe
that the process of introducing new stuff is really worth
it. Don't you agree?
